Five key lessons - Taking the fear out of developing near the railway

The government is consulting on proposals to reform national planning policies in England, including around new concepts such as a “default yes” to development around railway stations, including those located within the Green Belt. However, anyone who has delivered a project alongside the operational railway knows that this opportunity comes hand in hand with complexity. To explore both the opportunities and the challenges of developing near the railway, SLC and Gowling WLG recently brought together developers and local authorities for a roundtable on rail-adjacent development.

The discussion highlighted five lessons for those seeking to unlock development alongside the railway. Download a summary of these lessons in the attached document.
